Coastal Fishing
Black Sea Bass
Due to its size and spirited nature, as well as for its generous and extensive season, it is the greatest species for sport coastal fishing in Uruguay.
The shoals of fish appear with specimens of similar sizes, enabling the fishing of specimens that average around 10 kilos at the beginning of the season, or more than 20 kilos during the middle of the season or when it ends.
Season & Places
From September - October (with the arrival of the first shoals) until the beginning of autumn (April), when the winds of the pampas that cool the tides begin, the index of saltiness lowers and the waters settle out.
As per the season presents itself, the black sea bass can begin to appear in the coast of the Rocha lagoon and the José Ignacio coast (where they are not more than 50 or 40 meters from the beach), or Maldonado Creek coast (that demand throws that range about 100 meters). And the young ones turn out to be first in the least saline waters of Canelones and Montevideo.
Fishing and Equipment
The type of fishing is the waiting kind, with the rod resting in a support while you wait for a sting that can be displayed by a violent inclination. And with the fixed specimen, the waiting can be between 20 and 30 minutes to retrieve it, in a confrontation with the nature full of adrenaline.
This type of fishing is the one that requires the most demand in the handling of equipment to throw for longer distances, weighed conned plummets must be used or pyramidal between 140 and 250 grams, depending on the conditions of the sea and, specially, the fisherman’s experience.
It is always recommended to use what is so called heavy equipment, made up of rods between 3,90 to 4,20 meters suitable to throw 200 up to 300 grams plummets, in addition to rotating reels provided with lines of up to 25 pounds.
